Book Three: MBalax (M'Baa Lock) (NEW BOOK!)
Book 3 takes contemporary African Drum set playing to a new level of complexity and beauty with Senegambian rhythms inspired by Sabar drums, wrestlers, and the Islamic Wolof language. Mbalax was popularized worldwide most notably by Yousou N''dour and his band Super Etoile de Dakar. This book contains examples in 4/4 and 6/8 time signatures as well as how to merge the two time signatures. Also the unison percussion arrangements called Bak(s) (Bawk) are featured. The two audio CD's that come with the book feature a live Senegalese percussionist playing with the author on many of the examples. The audio also contain a play-along section with the Senegalese percussionist without the drum set so that the student practicing the material can play with authentic percussion to better feel the exercises in the proper context.
